Reinventing the Wheel (chair)

by ari 6/8/2006 6:28:00 PM

The mention of the word wheelchair conjures up images of the classic aluminum folding wheelchair. For many years this was the only chair available on the market. In the past few years we have seen rapid advancement in wheelchair design and technology.

Thanks to healthy competition, as well as technological and industrial advancements, the wheelchair market has evolved into a complex but thorough industry. Much attention has been given to the design, features and customization options offered to the consumer.

Today’s wheelchair is lighter yet stronger than its predecessors, now possible due to modern materials. Chairs have numerous options allowing the consumer to customize it to their particular needs. Manufacturers have also been paying attention to form as much as function. Models are now more streamlined and stylish, as well as being less conspicuous. There are many specialized models available as well, catering to unique and individual needs.

You can still purchase a “traditional” wheelchair, and many people do. But you no longer have to.
